Extinct in the wild in 1987, California Condors have been bred in captivity and reintroduced into the wild. There are now about 116 California Condors in the Arizona/Utah flock. There are only about 347 in the wild, and a total of 561 in existence (as of 2022). Listed as critically endangered, they are scavengers on carrion. The largest North American bird, they can have a wingspan of three meters, and can live to 60 years of age. |
